This is my effort to build a camper.  We started with a ’82 Coleman Sequoia popup that was beyond reasonable repair.

The frame was only 10’9” long, so we added enough to make it 12’.  The width is 6’6”.

I am using metal framing so as to keep the weight down and rot resistant.

I added metal strapping on all sides to help give it strength while being towed.

I used econo tin from Lowe’s for the siding.  I searched many places and could not find an affordable siding that did not weigh a ton.

The front wall worked out good, by letting it roll over to the top.

Now that all the siding is on, I have to fasten it down.  This will be done using rivets, lots of rivets!!!!

OUCH!! Hand Cramp!!.No, did not use a hand rivet gun. I use an air powered riveter, and man did it make for a quick job. As you can see, some time has passed since the camera came around. The corners are finished, AC has been added and Painted. Not bad so far.

Well it has been a while since I checked in. The camper has been in service for several years now with a few problems encountered, but nothing show stopping. The camper has been taken from North Alabama to the Gulf Coast and has been used around North Alabama many many times. Sad to say though that we have out grown the Redneck Mansion on wheels. We are now moving on to our next project, which is much bigger. A 5th wheel camper!!!!!! This one is truly a camper and it needs lots of TLC to be whole again. I am sure this will be a real challenge as it has suffered a lot of water damage and neglect by other owners. It is 27' long and will need the rear section from the door back torn off and rebuilt from the frame up. I will be salvaging as much original parts as possible, using similar wood construction in the rebuild. I will be adding pics very soon of the demo progress as I have many wounds to show for the progress.
